What Is The Best Way To Train Your Dog?

Training your pup should be fun for both of you and your pup. It”s always easier to learn if you’re having a good time. The key is to keep each session short and fun so you and your pup don’t get frustrated.

NAME GAME

Teach your pup to learn their own name by rewarding them with a pat or a treat everytime they respond to you when called.

LOOK AT ME

Hold a treat near your eyes while saying “look at me”. Reward your pup when they make eye contact with you

LOOSE LEASH WALKING

Start this exercise in a quiet environment with little or no distractions. Put your dog on their leash and fill your pockets with treats.

Start walking with your pup on the leash, if they get ahead or start pulling you should stop and turn around 180 degrees and commence walking in the opposite direction. As your pup catches on and walks beside you, give them a treat or a pat with encouraging words so they understand that it’s what you want them to do.

FIND IT GAME

Ask your dog to sit and stay, while you hide treats around the back yard. Once you have hidden all the treats, use the command “find it”.

GIVE GAME

Give is an important command that could potentially keep your pup safe.

Start with a tossing a toy on the floor, when your pup picks it up put one hand on the toy and hold a treat in the other hand using the “give” command. Make sure the treat is better than the toy to encourage your pup to want to give up their toy.

Remember not to get frustrated with your pup if they don’t get it straight away. It’s important to alway finish up with some play time, to help your pup unwind!
